On Monday evening, February 22, Engine Company 4 held an elevator rescue drill at the New York Avenue School. Charles Duffy Sr. from Engine Company 5 facilitated the hands on class.
Each year the entire Smithtown Fire Department participates in a refresher to review the procedures, tools, equipment and expertise needed to conduct an elevator rescue. The class is held in house at Department headquarters. Company 4 took the training one step further by working with Duffy to take an actual hands on look at a working elevator and its operation.
